PARC announcement on holidays

The PAWS Animal Shelter (PARC) is closed today, September 21 - a declared holiday.

We are closed on holidays to give our staff members some much-needed rest. *Most of them are at the shelter up to 9 or 10pm everyday - attending to rescues, medicating the animals, doing dog rehab and training.
Please see us and our animals for adoption on a day that is not a holiday - we are open up to Saturdays, 10 am to 6pm. (http://parc. mefindhome. org)
See you!

PAWS volunteer seminar on Jan 10 at Parc

*mefindhome

Greetings, animal advocates! I'm finally back from another blogging break and I'd like to start off by wishing you guys a very Happy New Year! Hope you had a rockin' holiday season with all your fur babies and thanks to all those who remembered the shelter animals last Christmas. Your gifts of kindness are magical.

PAWS is starting 2009 in high spirits with a volunteer orientation on January 10, Saturday, 10 AM at the PAWS shelter (PARC) in Quezon City. If you're a fellow advocate who wants to help out, then all you need is to come on Saturday and tell us so in person and get more acquainted with the organization to learn more about what you can do as PAWS volunteer. PAWS is 100% made of volunteer stuff and it needs more!

Are you photography enthusiast who likes taking pictures of animals? Come join in as well!

Just print out the application form, fill it up and bring it with you to the orientation. Please do not send it by fax anymore (we're trying to save on office supplies). Also bring Php 200 for the ID and other orientation materials.

For further inquiries about the orientation, please email philpaws @ yahoo.com or post a comment here and I will try to reply asap.

Thank you for reading.

PAWS Pet Memorial Wall

Hi guys,I've been planning to take a break from the computer
so..I think this would be my last post,for the meantime..AFK muna,haha :))
away from the keyboard..anyway,have fun and don't forget to visit your parted loved ones and your parted family pet this November.

Got this from kuya syerwin's blog,MEFINDHOME.ORG.
I'm a fan of kuya syerwin's blog ^-^

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

.

Have you ever wondered if there's a place here in the Philippines where people can go to commemorate their pets who have passed away? Humans do it all the time in memorial parks and cemeteries where they occasionally visit the resting places of their relatives who have passed on. They light candles and offer flowers in honor and loving memory of their dead.

PAWS, in a project called the PAWS Pet Memorial Wall, has made such a thing possible by allocating a portion of its animal shelter, a.k.a. PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC), for its Pet Memorial Wall where humans/pet guardians/owners can dedicate memorial wall tiles for their pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge.

This project is also meant to raise funds for the shelter as each tile (dimensions: 8 x 10 in.) costs Php 2,000 (approx. $40) inclusive of a four-line dedication with layout provided by PAWS (for approval by tile owner).

This is a pretty good way to create a lasting memorial to the pets that have been a significant part of our lives while at the same time reaching out a helping hand to the animals who are in dire need of our help at the shelter.

The shelter currently houses more than 130 cats and dogs, most of whom are looking for adoptive homes.

The Memorial Wall will be maintained for as long as the shelter stands.

For more information, please contact PAWS at philpaws @ yahoo.com. Thanks!

kittens for adoption...

*paws' multiply
cute kittens..

A woman called the PAWS office to ask if she can bring some kittens she found to our shelter.

This woman has very kindly already adopted 8 of the cats she has rescued, and has 3 dogs too. She is also feeding a feral colony (yes, she TNR's :) ). Her resources already stretched, she cannot take in 4 more kittens.

Kittens as young as these don't usually thrive well in shelters, so we advised her to hang on to them a little bit longer so we can try re-homing them online first. We wish that the kittens would go directly from her home to adopters' homes.

Please help this woman (who has already helped so many animals) and these kittens by forwarding this to family or friends who might be interested in welcoming a kitten (or two) into their home.

If you are ready to take in a new furry family member, please consider adopting one of these little kittens!

Just leave a comment here and I will get you in touch with their rescuer, Anu Singh.

Thank you.

cat food donations...

Shelter cats need cat food donations!July is turning out to be quite a rough month for the shelter cats of PAWS because of a continuing shortage of dry cat food. Want to do a good turn for the shelter kitties and donate some?

A 1.5 kg bag of cat food costs Php 200.00 to 275.00 in Save More Supermarket and usually lasts around 1 to 2 weeks per cat so a bag or two per donor will help a lot in alleviating the cat food shortage problem. The shelter currently has about 140 cats in its care.

Would-be donors have 4 options:

Buy cat food and donate

You may drop off your donations at the PAWS shelter in Quezon City (Map HERE) or you can course it through me. I work somewhere in Mandaluyong and lunch time or after-work meet-ups at Shangri-la Edsa Mall will be fine with me. Email me at sherwin [at] mefindhome.org for details.

Donate cash for cat food

The best way would be to deposit your cash donations to the official PAWS bank accounts. You may get the account details at the official website of PAWS. You can also donate via Paypal (accepts credit card) if you prefer the electronic route. Click HERE to donate via Paypal. Any amount will be much appreciated and will go a long way. Please be sure to email Anna Cabrera of PAWS at philpaws @ yahoo.com after sending in your money and tell her the details and purpose of your donation (e.g., cat food).

Buy dog food (or cat food) to donate cat food

For every purchase of the Alpo-Friskies-Fancy Feast special promo bundle, a corresponding donation will be given to PAWS to fund the food supply of the shelter animals. This promo will run up to the end of July 2008 only so hurry and go buy those bundles! More info about this can be found HERE.

Buy Postcards to donate cat food

There are still 8 sets of postcards left with me. There are two types: the cat and the dog set. Each set is composed of 8 different images for a total of 16 different images if you get both sets. Price is only Php 120.00 per set of 8. Complete the cat and dog sets for only Php 240.00. Click HERE for more information and some sample images.

Thank you for reading.

Evel

Evel has a great big smile on his handsome, open face. His eyes are a startling yellow, and they sparkle when he’s happy. His perky ears closely resemble those of a German shepherd—and yes, he will let you stroke them. His light tan hair is thick for an aspin, and very soft. He is healthy, has straight legs, a good back, and a playfully coiled tail. He is missing a few teeth, but that does little to dim the smile of this confident dog.
Evel is a six-year-old male dog who was left at PARC by his human family last November, before they emigrated. Since then, he’s been quietly on the lookout for a new human to keep company. He gets along well with the other dogs, but will not let himself be bullied. After I took him for a walk, he went back to his quarters. The other dogs crowded around him like a flock of paparazzi, but he simply held his head high and walked on.
Evel is a wonderful companion dog who likes to be close to his human alpha. He will let you hold him, hug him, and stroke him for very long periods. That’s why people, and even kids, should know how to treat him gently, but with firmness when needed. On the leash, he is light and obedient, even refraining from chasing cats—but you know he’s on the other end. After the first rush that comes with the beginning of every walk, he’ll stay alongside you, sniffing and marking anything taller than eight inches. After the walk, he’s content to sit quietly beside you as you watch the world go by. But Evel is also watchful and alert; he’s a sentinel ready to inform you of approaching life forms. He won’t threaten them; he’ll just bark a few times to give you a heads-up.
Evel is happiest when he’s with his humans. Won’t you give him a chance to take care of you, even as you take care of him?
