no to animal cruelty *late post

"There is an Indian legend which says when a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into Heaven. At the head of that Bridge waits every animal that that human encountered in their lifetime. The animals, based upon what they know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge.. and which are turned away."

None of us will really be able to tell if the said legend is true.

Meantime, what we do know for sure here on earth, is that PAWS has filed criminal charges ( for violation of RA 8485 or The Animal Welfare Act) against the following accused animal offenders:

1) Peter Abujabor, Jaypee Huerto and Godofredo Zamora - for attempted dog slaughtering or "katay" - NPS Docket No. XV-01-INQ 09F-00341 Antipolo City

2) Danny T. Sy, Efren Villacora, Allan Lim-it, Kittiya Boonyang, Timothy Dharmajiva, Phanuwat Nunthawat, Juliet De Leon - for dogfighting

Criminal Case No. 07-0793 Antipolo City Status: ongoing hearings, cross-examination

3) Lorenzo Sayson for illegal dog transport - NPS Docket No. XV-09-INQ-09F- 00382 Marikina City

- dog placed in sack and its snout and legs bound with wire

4) Joseph Carlo Candare for cat killing - Case No. E-05490 Quezon City

- according to his own blog and according to a witness' affidavit, Candare stomped a kitten to death in UP grounds

PAWS is also assisting in the filing of charges against

1) Man who beat his sister's dog to death in front of her - Pasay City

2) Man who killed his neighbor's cat by beating cat with a hammer- Malolos City

3) 19-year old who poisoned and killed two of his neighbor's dogs within the neighbor's yard using a silver cleaning agent - Valenzuela City

4) Man who shot his neighbor's caged labrador on the head (dog survived) - Pasig City

For those who may have witnesed animals (whether these are their own pets or not) being killed or hurt by cruel individuals, please help us make sure that it does not happen again by reporting the incident to the police.. Execute a witness' affidavit or a signed statement immediately after the perpetrators have been arrested.

If a witness or a person with direct knowledge about a crime refuses to execute an affidavit, there is very little we can do.

Remember, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing ."
